https://linear.app/unleash/issue/2-2729/add-event-timeline-to-new-in-unleash
Adds the new event timeline to the "New in Unleash" section.
Unlike Signals & Actions, the Event timeline doesn’t have a dedicated
page to link to, as it's a global component within the layout. To
address this, we extend the "check it out" action in the New in Unleash
component by supporting a callback instead of a link. When the user
clicks "check it out" for this new item, the page smoothly scrolls to
the top, ~~the timeline opens (if it's not already)~~, and a temporary
highlight effect is triggered on the timeline header button.
Also includes some scouting / slight UX adjustments.

There are a few details missing, which will be tackled in separate PRs.

(In the video, you’ll notice a slight delay before new events show up.
This happens because the timeline automatically refreshes every 10
seconds)
Removes the event timeline from the event log and integrates it into a
new header option.
I chose a middle-ground approach between options 1 and 2 from our Figma
sketches. This solution provides the best of both worlds IMO: the
timeline stands out as a global component, distinct from the current
page context, while sliding in rather than overlapping the content. This
way, users can view the timeline alongside the page content.
After we implemented new feature flag creation flow, this are not used
anymore.
Creation is now handled by **CreateFeatureDialog**.
Also edit component can be minified, because it does not need so many
fields anymore.
This PR is part of #4380 - Remove legacy `/api/feature` endpoint.
## About the changes
### Frontend
- Removes the useFeatures hook
- Removes the part of StrategyView that displays features using this
strategy (not been working since v4.4)
- Removes 2 unused features entries from routes
### Backend
- Removes the /api/admin/features endpoint
- Moves a couple of non-feature related tests (auth etc) to use
/admin/projects endpoint instead
- Removes a test that was directly related to the removed endpoint
- Moves a couple of tests to the projects/features endpoint
- Reworks some tests to fetch features from projects features endpoint
and strategies from project strategies
This PR adds a new file "Application.tsx", which is analogous to the
existing Project.tsx file in that it contains the base layout for the
application page, as well as tabs pointing to sub pages. Currently, the
overview tab uses a paragraph with some fallback text, while the
connected instances table displays the instances table.
I have mostly copied the existing ApplicationEdit component and used
that as a base, assuming that we'll delete that component when we're
done with this.

## About the changes
Instead of this:
```ts
const { uiConfig } = useUiConfig();
const myFlag = Boolean(uiConfig?.flags?.myFlag)
```
we can have this:
```ts
const myFlag = useUiFlag("myFlag")
```
With the same type safety, less verbose and more purposeful code.

## Discussion points
Can we in the future share flags between frontend and backend? Right now
adding a new flag has to be done in 4 different places (backend flag
keys list, backend flags defaults config, backend experimental server
options, frontend type).
Most ergonomic option is to pull config directly from Unleash.

Reorganizes the items in the menu to align with the tabs on the admin
page.
Also makes admin menu available to all users, they can get there anyways
when using API access link, and all admin-only pages are disabled for
non-admins.
Also adds API access to the mobile drawer menu, in accordance with how
the configure menu is laid out.

Adds a UI that shows current status of version and feature usage
collection configuration, and a presence in the configuration menu +
menu bar.
Configuring these features is done by setting environment variables. The
version info collection is an existing feature that we're making more
visible, the feature usage collection feature is a new feature that has
it's own environment configuration but also depends on version info
collection being active to work.

https://linear.app/unleash/issue/2-1137/roles-unification-on-the-ui
Root and project roles should be managed in a similar manner, which
means using the same roles route and tab for both.
Additionally, this includes a big revamp to the project roles to align
them more closely with the modern and standardized custom root roles
that were recently developed. They mostly use the same components.
There are still more things we want to improve and unify, but we've left
some of that out of this PR due to PR size concerns.

## About the changes
Implements custom root roles, encompassing a lot of different areas of
the project, and slightly refactoring the current roles logic. It
includes quite a clean up.
This feature itself is behind a flag: `customRootRoles`
This feature covers root roles in:
- Users;
- Service Accounts;
- Groups;
Apologies in advance. I may have gotten a bit carried away 🙈
### Roles
We now have a new admin tab called "Roles" where we can see all root
roles and manage custom ones. We are not allowed to edit or remove
*predefined* roles.

This meant slightly pushing away the existing roles to `project-roles`
instead. One idea we want to explore in the future is to unify both
types of roles in the UI instead of having 2 separate tabs. This
includes modernizing project roles to fit more into our current design
and decisions.
Hovering the permissions cell expands detailed information about the
role:

### Create and edit role
Here's how the role form looks like (create / edit):

Here I categorized permissions so it's easier to visualize and manage
from a UX perspective.
I'm using the same endpoint as before. I tried to unify the logic and
get rid of the `projectRole` specific hooks. What distinguishes custom
root roles from custom project roles is the extra `root-custom` type we
see on the payload. By default we assume `custom` (custom project role)
instead, which should help in terms of backwards compatibility.
### Delete role
When we delete a custom role we try to help the end user make an
informed decision by listing all the entities which currently use this
custom root role:

~~As mentioned in the screenshot, when deleting a custom role, we demote
all entities associated with it to the predefined `Viewer` role.~~
**EDIT**: Apparently we currently block this from the API
(access-service deleteRole) with a message:

What should the correct behavior be?
### Role selector
I added a new easy-to-use role selector component that is present in:
- Users

- Service Accounts

- Groups

### Role description
I also added a new role description component that you can see below the
dropdown in the selector component, but it's also used to better
describe each role in the respective tables:

I'm not listing all the permissions of predefined roles. Those simply
show the description in the tooltip:

### Role badge
Groups is a bit different, since it uses a list of cards, so I added yet
another component - Role badge:

I'm using this same component on the profile tab:

## Discussion points
- Are we being defensive enough with the use of the flag? Should we
cover more?
- Are we breaking backwards compatibility in any way?
- What should we do when removing a role? Block or demote?
- Maybe some existing permission-related issues will surface with this
change: Are we being specific enough with our permissions? A lot of
places are simply checking for `ADMIN`;
- We may want to get rid of the API roles coupling we have with the
users and SAs and instead use the new hooks (e.g. `useRoles`)
explicitly;
- We should update the docs;
- Maybe we could allow the user to add a custom role directly from the
role selector component;
