This PR checks the existence of the feature before trying to get tags
for the feature. Doing so by stealing the exists method from the feature
store, since that's what we need to know exists, and avoiding having the
feature store as a dependency to the featureTagStore seemed reasonable.
## About the changes
Update `passord` documentation with `password`. Note this was not a typo
but just Norwegian:
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english-norwegian/password
```shell
grep passord * -R -l | grep -v .git | grep -v dist | grep -v v3 | xargs sed -i 's/passord/password/g'
```
The script above avoids updating v3 because of legacy reasons
Related to #1265
This PR updates the OpenAPI schemas for all the operations tagged with
"addons". In doing so, I also uncovered a few bugs and inconsistencies.
These have also been fixed.
## Changes
I've added inline comments to the changed files to call out anything
that I think is worth clarifying specifically. As an overall
description, this PR does the following:
Splits `addon-schema` into `addon-schema` and
`addon-create-update-schema`. The former is used when describing addons
that exist within Unleash and contain IDs and `created_at` timestamps.
The latter is used when creating or updating addons.
Adds examples and descriptions to all relevant schemas (and their
dependencies).
Updates addons operations descriptions and response codes (including the
recently introduced 413 and 415).
Fixes a bug where the server would crash if it didn't recognize the
addon provider (test added).
Fixes a bug where updating an addon wouldn't return anything, even if
the API said that it would. (test added)
Resolves some inconsistencies in handling of addon description. (tests
added)
### Addon descriptions
when creating addons, descriptions are optional. The original
`addonSchema` said they could be `null | string | undefined`. This
caused some inconsistencies in return values. Sometimes they were
returned, other times not. I've made it so that `descriptions` are now
always returned from the API. If it's not defined or if it's set to
`null`, the API will return `description: null`.
### `IAddonDto`
`IAddonDto`, the type we used internally to model the incoming addons
(for create and update) says that `description` is required. This hasn't
been true at least since we introduced OpenAPI schemas. As such, the
update and insert methods that the service uses were incompatible with
the **actual** data that we require.
I've changed the type to reflect reality for now. Assuming the tests
pass, this **should** all be good, but I'd like the reviewer(s) to give
this a think too.

This PR changes how we calculate average time to production. Instead of
calculating fleeting 30 day windows and calculating the past and current
window, we now calculate a flat average across the entire project life.
This is less error prone as each feature will be tied to the earliest
time it was turned on in a production environment.

### What
This patches two very subtle bugs in the proxy repository that cause it
to never actually stop polling the db in the background
## Details - Issue 1
We've recently started to get the following output when running `yarn
test`:
` Attempted to log "Error: Unable to acquire a connection
at Object.queryBuilder
(/home/simon/dev/unleash/node_modules/knex/lib/knex-builder/make-knex.js:111:26)`
This seems to occur for every test suite after running the proxy tests
and the full stack trace doesn't point to anything related to the
running tests that produce this output. Running a `git bisect` points to
this commit:
6e44a65c58
being the culprit but I believe that this may have surfaced the bug
rather than causing it.
Layering in a few console logs and running Unleash, seems to point to
the proxy repository setting up data polling but never actually
terminating it when `stop` was called, which is inline with the output
here - effectively the tests were continuing to run the polling in the
background after the suite had exited and jest freaks out that an async
task is running when it shouldn't be. This is easy to reproduce once the
console logs are in place in the `dataPolling` function, by running
Unleash - creating and deleting a front end token never terminates the
poll cycle.
I believe the cause here is some subtlety around using async functions
with timers - stop was being called, which results in the timer being
cleared but a scheduled async call was already on the stack, causing the
recursive call to resolve after stop, resurrecting the timer and
reinitializing the poll cycle.
I've moved the terminating code into the async callback. Which seems to
solve the problem here.
## Details - Issue 2
Related to the first issue, when the proxy service stops the underlying
Unleash Client, it never actually calls destroy on the client, it only
removes it from its internal map. That in turn means that the Client
never calls stop on the injected repository, it only removes it from
memory. However, the scheduled task is `async` and `unref`, meaning it
continues to spin in the background until every other process also
exits. This is patched by simply calling destroy on the client when
cleaning up
## The Ugly
This is really hard to test effectively, mostly because this is an issue
caused by internals within NodeJS and async. I've added a test that
reads the output from the debug log (and also placed a debug log in the
termination code). This also requires the test code to wait until the
async task completes. This is horribly fragile so if someone has a
better idea on how to prove this I would be a very happy human.
The second ugly part is that this is a subtle issue in complex code that
really, really needs to work correctly. I'm nervous about making changes
here without lots of eyes on this
The patched test is currently depending on runtime to take more than a
millisecond to update the tested property. That's not always true and
more so on a fast machine, which makes this test flakey. This forces the
old timestamp to be 100 ms in the past so that the checked property must be at least 100 ms different if the update occurred

## About the changes
client-metrics-schema is less strict than proxy-metrics-schema because
the former allows empty `instanceId` and also supports dates as
timestamps as well as date-formatted strings.
Using the same schema makes sense to reduce maintainability costs and
it's less error-prone if we need to modify the schema because underlying
the schema they both use the same code.
The reasoning is that proxy metrics should align with our client
metrics. Alternatively, we have new endpoints for edge metrics that will
aggregate and bucket by client.

## Discussion points
Will we ever want to evolve proxy-metrics differently than
client-metrics? I'm under the assumption that the answer is no
### What
Change /edge/metrics endpoint to accept list of ClientMetricsEnv
### Rationale
We originally made the assumption that we probably didn't need to keep
splitting from a map of features into ClientMetricsEnv for bulk, instead
the bulk poster could post ClientMetricsEnv directly. However, Unleash
still expected the old client metrics format with a dictionary of
featurename -> metricsForFeature. This PR changes that to now accept the
list of ClientMetricsEnv (preprocessed data from downstream) instead of
expecting metrics to be in the old single application metric format.
This makes the distinction from the event services clearer.
In enterprise we'll also rename LoginEventService etc to reflect this
rename.
In addition this adds a setting for how long of a retention one should have, defaulting to 336 hours (2 weeks)

## About the changes

Batch Metrics as a capability developed to support the frontend API to
handle more metrics from SDKs without overloading the DB to much. It has
been running in Unleash Cloud for months and has proven to work quite
nice.
This PR simply removes the flag to make the capability GA, also for
self-hosted users.
## About the changes
While trying to count only features that are not archived to display the
amount of features of a project, accidentally we filtered out projects
with all features archived (they should show up in the list but with
count of features zero)
This PR takes the project status API a step further by adding the
capability of providing a date to control the selection. We are
currently making calculations based on a gliding 30 day window, updated
once a day. The initial database structure and method for updating the
UI is outlined in this PR.
## About the changes
This PR adds two new functions that is protected by CR. When used
instead of the current setVariantOnEnv and setVariantsOnEnv if the flag
UNLEASH_EXPERIMENTAL_CR_ON_VARIANTS is set, the call is blocked. This
leaves the old functions, which is used from the CR flow in place, and
adds new methods protected by CR.
Also adds e2e tests verifying that the methods will block requests if CR
is enabled for project:environment pair, as well as not block if CR is
not enabled. Tests already in place should confirm that the default
flow, without the flag enabled just works.
## About the changes
Add warnings when we detect something might be wrong with the customer
configuration, in particular with regard to variants configuration
## Rationale
Moving from variants per feature to variants per environment will allow
users to have fine-grained permissions and more control over variants on
different environments: #2254
But because this requires an additional step of copying variants to
other environments, we identified the potential risk of users forgetting
to follow this step. To keep them informed about this, we're introducing
a warning sign after a toggle is enabled when we detect that:
1. The environment is enabled without variants
2. Other enabled environments have variants
This situation would be a problem if you rely on `getVariant` method
from the SDK, because without variants you'll receive the default
variant. Probably, not what you'd expect after enabling the toggle, but
there are situations where this might be correct. Because of the latter,
we thought that adding a warning and letting the user handle the
situation was the best solution.

## About the changes
This PR adds the ability to push variants to multiple environments
overriding the existing variants.
Relates to [roadmap](https://github.com/orgs/Unleash/projects/10) item:
#2254
**Note:** This won't fail if there are variants in other environments, because the operation wouldn't be idempotent. It should have that property because setting variants to 1 or more environments once or twice should not make a difference
This PR moves the getProjectOverview method out from the project health
controller. It doesn't make sense that this method lives here anymore,
as over time it has grown into method that relays all information about
a single project. It makes more sense that this now lives on the root of
the project api. Also removes unwanted duplication of getProjectOverview
from the project-service and the project-health-service.
## About the changes
When exporting v3, for variants backward compatibility, we need to find
one featureEnvironment and fetch variants from there.
In cases where the default environment is disabled (therefore does not
get variants per environment when added), it can be still be selected
for the export process. Therefore variants don't appear in the feature
when they should be there.
An e2e test that fails with the previous implementation was added to
validate the behavior

We have experienced side-effects where the import was unexpected and
resulted in environments thought to be removed. This had the unexpected
side-effect of also deleting API keys for some environments not part of
the import file.
This commit removes the ability of the state-service to mutate api keys
directly. There is no compelling reasons why we should remove API keys
as part of an import query.

Co-authored-by: Thomas Heartman <thomas@getunleash.ai>
## What
Previously when importing strategies we've used the same data type we've
used for creating strategies (the minimal, a name, an optional
description, optional parameters and an optional editable column). This
meant that exporting strategies and then importing them would reactivate
deprecated strategies. This PR changes to allow the import to preserve
all the data coming in the export file.
## Tests
Added four new tests, two new unit tests using our fake stores and two
new e2e tests. Interestingly the ones in the fake store ran green before
this change as well, probably because we just insert the parsed json
object in the fake store, whereas the real store actually converts the
object from camelCasing to the postgresql snake_casing standard.
## Discussion points:
### Mismatch between fake and real stores
This is inevitable since storing things in javascript arrays vs saving
in a real database will have some differences, but this again shows the
value of our e2e tests.
### Invariants
Should we see if we can add some invariants to our import/export so that
we can write some proptests for it? One candidate is commutativity of
import/export. On a fresh database importing and then exporting should
yield the same file that was imported provided all flags are turned on.
Candidate for Q1 improvement of import/export.

applications are registered in Unleash. Since applications are ephemeral
we are exposing this metric in different time windows based on when the
application was last seen.
The caveat is that we issue a database query for each new range we want
to add. Hopefully, this should not be a problem because:
a) the amount of ranges we'd expose is small and unlikely to grow
b) this is currently updated at startup time and even if we update it on
a scheduled basis the refresh rate will be rather sparse
## Sample data
This is how metrics will look like
```
# HELP client_apps_total Number of registered client apps aggregated by range by last seen
# TYPE client_apps_total gauge
client_apps_total{range="allTime"} 3
client_apps_total{range="30d"} 3
client_apps_total{range="7d"} 2
```
## About the changes
The deprecated /api/admin/features endpoint supported querying with tag
and namePrefix parameters.
This PR adds this functionality to
/api/admin/projects/<project>/features as well, allowing to replicate
queries that used to work.

## Discussion points
I'm extending our query parameters support for
/api/admin/projects/<projectId>/features endpoint. This will be
reflected in our open-api spec, so I also made an
adminFeaturesQuerySchema for this.
Also, very open for something similar to what we did for the modifyQuery
for the archived parameter, but couldn't come up with a good way to
support subselects using the query builder, it just ended up blowing the
stack. If anyone has a suggestion, I'm all ears.

In this PR we remove the general SettingService cache, as it will not
work across multiple horizontal unleash instances, events are not
published across.
We also fix the CORS origin to:
- Access-Control-Allow-Origin set to "*" if no Origin is configured
- Access-Control-Allow-Origin set to "*" if any Origin is configured to
"*"
- - Access-Control-Allow-Origin set to array and have the "cors"
middleware to return an exact match on the user provided Origin.

## About the changes
This PR addresses some issues when working with variants after migrating
to variants per environment.
**Problem:** since PATCH
`/api/admin/projects/default/features/${featureName}/variants` does not
take into account `featureEnvironments`, when variantsPerEnvironment
gets enabled, this method will override the variants in other
environments (i.e. not doing a patch). This method has to be maintained
because of backward compatibility but it has to be adapted to deal with
variants per environment

Removes feature flags for syncing sso groups and clone environment.
These features are being made generally available for all who have
access to environments and sso groups
This removes stray onlys in our tests and adds a linter rule that will
error if only is present. Also updates the test result of one of our
tests as a result of [this pull
request](https://github.com/Unleash/unleash/pull/2344)
## About the changes
With the latest changes of variants per environment, we switched to
export schema v4 without having the feature toggle enabled. This moves
the variants to `featureEnvironments` when they were previously in
`features`. The main problem is that it can create confusion as the
exported file has the same variants for each one of the environments but
after importing the file the UI will only show one set of variants
attached to the feature.
With this change, we're maintaining the previous schema until the
feature toggle is enabled.
Adds ability to favorite projects.
1. Can favorite project
2. Can unfavorite project
3. Favorite field is returned on `/api/admin/projects/default`
4. Favorite field is returned on` /api/admin/projects`
## About the changes
We need a way to have an audit log for operations made on Api Tokens.
These changes adds three new event types, API_TOKEN_CREATED,
API_TOKEN_UPDATED, API_TOKEN_DELETED and extends api-token-service to
store these to our event store to reflect the action being taken.
* This PR adds a configurable maxAge header to the CORS middleware. This
allows the preflight request to be cached so that we can reduce the
request load on our end for the frontend clients starting to utilise the
frontend api.
Previously we hard deleted the users, but due to change requests and
possibly other features in future, we really want to hard-link user
table and have meaningful relationships.
But this means, when user is deleted, all linked data is also deleted.
**Workaround is to soft delete users and just clear users data and keep
the relationships alive for audit logs.**
This PR implements this feature.

## What
This (admittedly massive) PR updates the "physical" documentation
structure and fixes url inconsistencies and SEO problems reported by
marketing. The main points are:
- remove or move directories : advanced, user_guide, deploy, api
- move the files contained within to the appropriate one of topics,
how-to, tutorials, or reference
- update internal doc links and product links to the content
- create client-side redirects for all the urls that have changed.
A number of the files have been renamed in small ways to better match
their url and to make them easier to find. Additionally, the top-level
api directory has been moved to /reference/api/legacy/unleash (see the
discussion points section for more on this).
## Why
When moving our doc structure to diataxis a while back, we left the
"physical' files lying where they were, because it didn't matter much to
the new structure. However, that did introduce some inconsistencies with
where you place docs and how we organize them.
There's also the discrepancies in whether urls us underscores or hyphens
(which isn't necessarily the same as their file name), which has been
annoying me for a while, but now has also been raised by marketing as an
issue in terms of SEO.
## Discussion points
The old, hand-written API docs have been moved from /api to
/reference/api/legacy/unleash. There _is_ a /reference/api/unleash
directory, but this is being populated by the OpenAPI plugin, and mixing
those could only cause trouble. However, I'm unsure about putting
/legacy/ in the title, because the API isn't legacy, the docs are. Maybe
we could use another path? Like /old-docs/ or something? I'd appreciate
some input on this.
## About the changes
This test fails randomly, example:
https://github.com/Unleash/unleash/actions/runs/3496006349/jobs/5853415518#step:5:376
It's not so frequent but I tested locally one out of 4 or 8 runs fails
because the rows returned are in the wrong order.
## Discussion points
If the order of segments is relevant, we should look into how we're
fetching them or applying a `sort()` before returning from the query.
I've validated on my machine that even if the segments are sent in
order, when pulled from the db sometimes they are processed in a
different order

Basically created parallel components for the **variants per
environments** feature, so both flows should work correctly depending on
the feature flag state. Some of the duplication means that cleanup
should be straightforward - Once we're happy with this feature it should
be enough to delete
`frontend/src/component/feature/FeatureView/FeatureVariants/FeatureVariantsList`
and do some little extra cleanup.
I noticed we had some legacy-looking code in variants, so this involved
*some* rewriting of the current variants logic. Hopefully this new code
looks nicer, more maintainable, and more importantly **doesn't break
anything**.

fix: broken UI when importing features into environments which are not linked to the feature's project

## About the changes
**The problem:** when we import we have projects, features and
environments. Each feature belongs to a project (this is by default and
the imported file enforces that). The links between projects and
features, or projects and environments, depend on us creating those
relationships. When we add a feature to an environment we're not
validating that the project and the environment are connected. Because
of that, in some situations (like in this test), we can end up with a
project with features but no environment.
This breaks a weak constraint we had which is that all projects should
have at least one environment.
**This PR makes the following assumption when importing**: _if a feature
is added to an environment, and that environment is still not linked to
the project that feature belongs to, then the project and environments
have to be linked_. The rationale behind this is that the user couldn't
have generated this export file without the project and environment
being linked together.

## What
This change removes the use of double quotes in the
'addPublicSignupTokenUser' endpoint summary. It also changes the
original summary to a description and adds a new, shorter summary.
## Why
The OpenAPI / docusaurus integration errors out (refer to [this failed
build](https://github.com/Unleash/unleash/actions/runs/3434792557/jobs/5726445104))
if the frontmatter contains invalid characters. In this case, it's
because the automatic sidebar label contains double quotes, which it
interprets as a new key having been declared:
```
Error: Error while parsing Markdown front matter.
This can happen if you use special characters in front matter values (try using double quotes around that value).
Error: Loading of version failed for version current
Error: Unable to build website for locale en.
Error: YAMLException: can not read a block mapping entry; a multiline key may not be an implicit key at line 4, column 12:
description: "Create a user with the 'viewe ...
^
```
For some reason, I cannot reproduce this error locally. Instead, the
generation goes as expected.
---
Regarding using description instead of summary: summaries should be very
short and sweet, especially because they're also used in the generated
sidebar. Descriptions can be a bit wordier, so I added a shorter summary
for going forward.
## Generated output
This is what the old configuration would generate. Notice the

## What
This PR updates the `paramToBool` function to first check whether the
incoming argument is a boolean. This fixes the bug where using `true` or
`false` (e.g. `Strategies=false`) in the query would cause the server to
crash.
I've also added a test case to check for these values.
## Why
While working on the import/export API docs, I noticed that using
`false` in an export request caused the server to crash.
As we want to allow `true` and `false` (and use these values in the
documentation), we should ensure that they work as expected.
## Background
It's likely that this bug was introduced when we added the new OpenAPI
query parameters to the export endpoint. Because of the way that the
OpenAPI service we use does conversion, we now get `true` and `false`
converted to actual boolean values instead of strings. The `paramToBool`
function didn't account for that previously, which is why it caused the
server to crash.
## What
This PR fixes a bug where fetching a feature toggle via the
`/api/admin/projects/:projectId/features/:featureName` endpoint doesn't
validate that the feature belongs to the provided project. The same
thing applies to the archive functionality. This has also been fixed.
In doing so, it also adds corresponding tests to check for edge cases,
updates the 403 error response we use to provide clearer steps for the
user, and adds more error responses to the OpenAPI documentation.
## Why
As mentioned in #2337, it's unexpected that the provided project
shouldn't matter at all, and after discussions internally, it was also
discovered that this was never intended to be the case.
## Discussion points
It might be worth rethinking this for Unleash v5. Why does the features
API need the projects part at all when features are unique across the
entire instance? Would it be worth reverting to a simpler feature API
later or would that introduce issues with regards to how different
projects can have different active environments and so on?
### Further improvements
I have _not_ provided schemas for the error responses for the endpoints
at this time. I considered it, but because it would introduce new schema
code, more tests, etc, I decided to leave it for later. There's a
thorough OpenAPI walkthrough coming up, so I think it makes sense to do
it as part of that work instead. I am happy to be challenged on this,
however, and will implement it if you think it's better.
### Why 403 when the project is wrong?
We could also have used the 404 status code for when the feature exists
but doesn't belong to this project, but this would require more (and
more complex) code. We also already use 403 for cases like this for
post, patch, and put. Finally, the [HTTP spec's section on the 403
status code](https://httpwg.org/specs/rfc9110.html#status.403) says the
following (emphasis mine):
> The 403 (Forbidden) status code indicates that the server
**_understood the request but refuses to fulfill it_**. A server that
wishes to make public why the request has been forbidden can describe
that reason in the response content (if any).
>
> If authentication credentials were provided in the request, the server
considers them insufficient to grant access. The client SHOULD NOT
automatically repeat the request with the same credentials. The client
MAY repeat the request with new or different credentials. However, **_a
request might be forbidden for reasons unrelated to the credentials_**.
As such, I think using 403 makes sense in this case.

## What
This PR does two things:
1. Add tests to ensure that all OpenAPI tags are listed in the root-level `tags` property of the spec.
2. Changes the tags for endpoints that use any of the deprecated tags (specifically `admin`).
## Why
When we moved to using the docusaurus OpenAPI doc generator, we made some changes to existing tags. Moving away from having just 'admin', 'client', and one or two more, we now use a more granular system, which makes it easier to find an endpoint by category.
However, there's currently nothing enforcing this and this bit of knowledge hasn't been clearly communicated to anyone. Because of this, we have some endpoints that are currently just grouped under a general 'admin' tag.
This has two drawbacks:
- In Swagger UI, all these endpoints are grouped together. This means that they break with the expectation that each endpoint has its own category. Further, being lumped together means that the 'admin' group is hard to read.
- The 'admin' tag is (on purpose) not included in the root-level `tags` property of the generated OpenAPI spec. This means that the OpenAPI docusaurus generator doesn't pick up those endpoints, which means that they're not included in the docs on docs.getunleash.io.
## How
By implementing tests that:
1. Check that the tags included in the spec are a subset of the "approved" tags
2. By checking each path in the OpenAPI spec and making sure that all its tags are listed in the root-level tag list. If this is not the case, the test fails and it logs an error explaining what is wrong to the console. An example of such a message is:
```
The OpenAPI spec contains path-level tags that are not listed in the root-level tags object. The relevant paths, operation ids, and tags are as follows:
POST /api/admin/feedback (operation id: createFeedback) has the following invalid tags: "admin"
PUT /api/admin/feedback/{id} (operation id: updateFeedback) has the following invalid tags: "admin"
For reference, the root-level tags are: "Addons", "Admin UI", "API tokens", "Archive", "Auth", "Client", "Context", "Edge", "Environments", "Events", "Features", "Import/Export", "Metrics", "Operational", "Playground", "Projects", "Public signup tokens", "Strategies", "Tags", "Unstable", "Users"
```
